"Mutiny on the Demoniac" is a Season 1 episode of the series, Zak Storm: Super Pirate. According the series' production/written order, it is the 20th episode of Season 1, as well as the 20th episode of the series, overall.[1]

Synopsis[]

After the Chaos nearly collides with the Demoniac, Clovis finally gets his wish and turns human again.

Plot[]

Mutiny on the Demoniac 027

The episode begins with the Seven Cs hiding somewhere in the Sea of Vapir as Caramba puts his finishing touches on his brand-new invention that he dubbed the Misty Dematerialization. According to Caramba, his intention for the machine is to draw energy from the mist of Vapir and convert it into bi-polarized ions to create a camouflage system, turning any solid objects intangible — or "camouflage" as he insisted. The alien demonstrates his machine to the crew by turning a fish that Crogar was eating intangible. The Viking is, thus, unable to physically pick up the fish again without phasing through it, describing that the fish has become a "ghost". Clovis and Zak are both impressed that the machine is able to turn any solid objects into intangible; the former, because he's a ghost himself and wonders if he can taste the "ghost fish", while the latter finds that the machine's power is similar to Calabrass' Eye of Vapir abilities. Shortly after, the machine malfunction, and the fish is back in its physical form again. Caramba explains to the crew that the machine is still in the prototype stage, but he hopes that he could fix it and make it "works like a dream". However, by mentioning his intention to the machine, Clovis jealously rhetorically asks him out loud if Caramba's "dream" is to turn everyone into ghosts like him and calls him "lame" before he flies away to the port of The Chaos.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 049

Zak, seeing how Clovis is upset and isn't in his normal cheerful self, heads to where the young ghost is and asks him if he's okay. Clovis expresses his frustration and jealousy over his teammates being free to go off on adventures on land while he's forcibly bounded to The Chaos as a ghost and thus, is never allowed to leave the ship of his own free will. He complains about how lonely he feels being trapped in The Chaos and hasn't met anybody before meeting Zak and the crew. Zak feels bad for Clovis because of the latter's loneliness and assures the young ghost that while none of the crew are free while in the Bermuda Triangle, he advises him that freedom is in their heart and they should feel their inner freedom instead, which cheers Clovis up a little.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 099

Suddenly, The Chaos radar goes off and alerts everyone on the ship that The Demoniac have found the crew and starts firing its cannon at them. The crew all know that The Demoniac won't back away from them as Golden Bones has commanded his skeleton army to deploy the bow drill so they could ram into The Chaos. Determined, Zak quickly takes the wheel of the ship and explains to his crew about his plan — he'll be using a torero strategy where the Seven Cs would all stay where they are until he hit the gas at the last second to get The Chaos out of the way and they would follow The Demoniac after the latter pass them. Unfortunately, Caramba reveals to everyone that because he used up half of The Chaos' energy for his machine, Zak suddenly is unable to hit the gas. Horrified that The Chaos won't be able to move anywhere until it refills its energy, Zak panicky asks Caramba to do something since The Demoniac is heading towards them. Caramba suggests he could try relaunching the Misty Dematerialization, explaining to Zak and Cece that the machine can turn everyone and everything on the ship intangible which can allow The Demoniac to pass right through them instead. With no other options left and , The Demoniac is getting closer, Zak allows Caramba to hit the switch. Caramba activates the machine which turns everything onboard and the entirety of The Chaos intangible. As a result, The Demoniac phases right through them, causing the ship to short circuits as a result. Inside The Demoniac, Golden Bones is very shocked at what just happened and becomes highly frustrated that The Chaos has somehow "disappeared" from their radar.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 115

Meanwhile, with The Chaos refilling its energy just in time, Zak sails the ship to a hiding place before the Misty Dematerialization short circuits again, causing everyone and everything on the ship to be solid again. The crew all start cheering that Caramba's plan works, but their celebration comes to a halt when they heard Clovis' cry for help. Zak looks through his camera and sees Clovis is somehow able to hold onto the bow drill of The Demoniac. The crew on the ship are horrified to learn that Clovis has somehow become human as a result of a side effect of the Misty Dematerialization's power; since Clovis is intangible to begin with, the machine reverses his form and makes him solid. And when The Demoniac phased through The Chaos earlier, Clovis accidentally ensnared onto the bow drill after The Chaos became intangible. So, with Clovis in danger, Zak knows that he and his crew must rescue the young boy from Golden Bones and his skeletons.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 135

As Zak and his crew plan their rescue operation, Clovis finds himself inside the bow of The Demoniac and gets captured by the skeletons after they bring the bow drill, along with Clovis, back inside the ship. As Clovis is being carried by two skeleton guards to the command station, he expresses the thrill that he's able to feel like a real person again after regaining his physical form, such as pain. When the two skeleton guards bring him to Golden Bones, the skeleton general recognizes Clovis as Zak's cabin boy but he also finds his behavior "mad as a loon" after Clovis asks Golden Bones to pinch him. Knowing that Zak is going to rescue his "madman", Golden Bones orders his guards to bring Clovis to the brig as he waits for the captain of The Chaos to arrive.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 157

Meanwhile, Clovis gets locked up in a jail cell and complains to himself about his time in his physical form where he's finally free from being bound to The Chaos before suddenly becoming a prisoner again this time on The Demoniac. But when a few drops of water fall onto him from above, Clovis calms down and feels thrilled again since at least he can feel the wetness of water for the first time in forever. But his celebration of feeling wet gets abrupt when he realizes that he's sharing a cell with a skeleton who is behind him the whole time. The skeleton introduced himself as Calico, a mutiny who was the first mate for Golden Bones before he was stripped from his title. Clovis initially doesn't trust Calico because of his experience dealing with Golden Bones and his army, but Calico assures the young boy that not all skeletons are bad like Golden Bones and explains to him that there are some of them who actually oppose Skullivar's tyranny and wants to do things for the better but that makes them be viewed as traitors. Calico and Clovis then both bond over their desire for freedom as they understand each other's problems.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 186

While the remaining Seven Cs are still trying to figure out a plan to rescue Clovis, the young boy desperately tries to find a way out of the cell and admits to Calico that since he has a physical form again, he wants to enjoy his freedom as soon as possible as a human. But Calico despondently tells Clovis that there's no freedom in the world for anybody like them after experiencing being in a cell for too long. Clovis assures the skeleton by mentioning Zak's earlier advice that even though they can't feel free in the world, they can still have freedom in their heart — metaphorically for skeletons and ghosts, physically for humans. Calico, who's still hopeless, openly calls Zak a fool for believing the ideology, but Clovis defends his captain and proclaims that when Zak comes and saves him, Calico would be proven wrong about everything he ever knows. Calico, surprised that Clovis trusts Zak to rescue the young boy, decides to help him for once after Clovis suggests that Zak can free him as well. The mutiny skeleton and the young boy then both think of a plan to get Zak to reach them. Since Calico knows everything about The Demoniac during his time as a first mate, the two prisoners suggest calling Zak on the radio from the command station to send him a message. Using a cup Calico was holding during the entire conversation, Clovis pounds it to the jail cell and alerts the guards that the two have "important information" for Golden Bones.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 217

At the command station, a skeleton alerts Golden Bones that The Chaos have "surrendered" after seeing a white flag being flown on the mast of the ship. But before Golden Bones can do anything about it, the guards arrive with both Calico and Clovis. The general demands to know why Calico is being brought to him, to which Calico calls him out for being ungrateful after he saved Golden Bones from a sea monster during his time as the first mate but then thrown into a brig and labeled a traitor soon after. As Calico delivers a speech to the other skeletons about Skullivar's tyranny and they should rebel because of the mistreatment they experienced from both their leader and Golden Bones, Clovis sneaks past the distracted army general to get to the radio to call The Chaos. Caramba picks up the call from The Chaos engine room, so Clovis asks the alien where Zak is since he needs to tell him something. However, Caramba reveals to Clovis that Zak is not on board at the moment since he's already off to rescue the young boy. Clovis is surprised that he's too late to contact Zak and immediately cuts the feed when he gets caught by Golden Bones. Knowing that the jigs are up, Clovis escapes from the command station and runs into the hallways of the ship with the skeletons chasing after him.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 253

While Zak and Calabrass sneak onto The Demoniac to look for Clovis, the aforementioned young boy continues running and hides in the brig. But Clovis was eventually captured by a skeleton and surrounded by several more of them. The skeletons are about to hand Clovis back to Golden Bones, but Clovis thinks fast by trying to persuade them about Calico wanting to rebel against their leaders and that they should be happy about the idea of being free from serving Skullivar and Golden Bones. At first, it doesn't work for the skeleton who grabs him but Clovis did manage to change the others' minds. Knowing that he has a few mutinies on his side, Clovis leads the rebel skeletons back to the command station and comes face-to-face with Golden Bones and those who are loyal to him. A battle soon breaks out between the mutinies and the loyalists.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 321

As the skeleton civil battle goes on, Clovis tries to sneak past them but he runs into Golden Bones and gets chased all the way to the deck of The Demoniac. Zak and Calabrass, who are hiding nearby, both notice Clovis being cornered by Golden Bones, so Zak activates the Eye of Sino and tries to stop Golden Bones from harming Clovis. But the skeleton general grabs Clovis with his hook and tosses him overboard. Luckily, Zak whistles to alert the Plank which comes to Clovis' rescue before the latter falls into the sea. Zak and Golden Bones then battle it out while Clovis tries to get back to The Chaos for safety. But before Clovis can get farther away from The Demoniac, Golden Bones have the ship cannons start pointing at him which forces Zak to surrender so he can save Clovis' life before the cannons can fire at him. With Zak and Calabrass now prisoners to The Demoniac, Clovis arrives back at The Chaos and warns the others about the situation. Clovis has a plan to break Zak out since he now knows where the brigs in The Demoniac are. To make sure if his plan would be successfully executed, he asks Caramba if the Misty Dematerialization still works.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 356

While the remaining Seven Cs are discussing Clovis' plan, Zak locks up in the same cell with Calico. The mutiny skeleton greets the captain and compliments him for his bravery which is something Clovis claimed earlier. Zak, who is upset for being locked up in a cell despite Clovis labeling him as "brave", initially doesn't trust Calico. But when Calico assures Zak that he should have faith in his crew and that "freedom is [in his heart]", the captain starts believing him since Zak is the one who gave Clovis the same advice from earlier, and then Clovis passes on his advice to Calico.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 372

Meanwhile, the remaining Seven Cs are planning their rescue mission with the use of the Misty Dematerialization. Caramba would turn on the machine to make The Chaos and everyone onboard intangible so it can allow the ship to phrase right through The Demoniac so they can rescue Zak. Cece points out that Zak won't be dematerialized and wonders how he would go through the walls of The Demoniac and follow The Chaos. Clovis remembers that the machine's powers are very similar to Calabrass' Eye of Vapir, so Zak needs to activate the Eye and follow The Chaos while in this form until the Seven Cs all get away from The Demoniac. However, Clovis needs to warn the two that they must activate the Eye of Vapir in order for the plan to work. He asks Caramba to hack into the radio system of The Demoniac so he can call Zak to which the alien agrees to do so. But before the Seven Cs are getting ready to execute the plan, Caramba warns Clovis that he doesn't know if there's any major side-effect to the machine again. Since Clovis was a ghost and only gain physical form after the first activation of the machine, it's likely that Clovis might turn back into a ghost and continue to stay that way once the machine was activated for a second time. Clovis decides to sacrifice his freedom as a human to rescue his captain, knowing that someday, he would find his real physical body that is still currently lost and regain his humanity again. And before he could say goodbye to his humanity, he decides to eat a fish to enjoy his first and final meal before becoming a ghost again.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 377

Back at The Demoniac, Golden Bones has already arrested all of the mutiny skeletons for standing against him and they are waiting to be executed. He warns the remaining loyal skeletons that if one of them ever does the same thing, they would end up like them and face the wrath of Skullivar. But before Golden Bones can finish his warning, Caramba has already hacked into the radio system of The Demoniac from The Chaos and Clovis appears as a broadcasting feed on the windows of the command center. Clovis encourages the skeletons that it's not too late to defend themselves against their tyranny. They should instead free Calico and fight back Golden Bones, but they should also help Zak by giving him Calabrass back. A skeleton, who's holding Calabrass in the command station during the entire broadcast, decides to fight back after listening to Clovis' message by heading to the brig to give Calabrass back to Zak. Golden Bones, after noticing Calabrass isn't in the same room with him, becomes highly frustrated yet again with his soldiers' betrayal. One of the skeletons alerts Golden Bones that The Chaos is heading right toward them, which makes the general order his soldiers to fire at the ship.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 396

Meanwhile, the skeleton heads to the brig and frees both Zak and Calico from their cell. The skeleton heads Calabrass back to Zak before warning him that despite being on Skullivar's side and wanting to be free from his tyranny, Zak still has to fight them the next time the Seven Cs run into them to keep the facade. Just then, Clovis' voice is heard from the radio system and alerts Zak that The Chaos is using the Torero Technique, which means that they would be using Caramba's machine again to help him escape out of The Demoniac. Zak, knowing what that means, activates the Eye of Vapir on Calabrass and he heads out of the brig to catch up with The Chaos.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 410

While Zak phases through the walls and doors of The Demoniac, Caramba activates the Misty Dematerialization which turns everyone, including Clovis, and everything onboard The Chaos intangible. As a result, the ship phases right through The Demoniac, causing the submarine to shorts circuit again. Zak manages to catch up with The Chaos and he and everyone onboard the ship has successfully passed through The Demoniac. As soon as they escape from The Demoniac, Caramba's machine short-circuits just in time, and everyone, except Clovis, and everything onboard The Chaos turn back into their solid forms.

Back inside the command center, Golden Bones angrily demands his soldiers to fire at The Chaos. But one of the skeletons tells him that all systems are down as a result of The Chaos phasing through The Demoniac, much to Golden Bones' frustration for being defeated by the Seven Cs yet again.

Mutiny on the Demoniac 432

After their rescue mission comes off as a success, Clovis feels bad for Calico who might be still in the brig since they forgot to take him with them. Just then, Zak notices a hydrofoil driving away in the water away from The Demoniac. He puts his camera on his eye like a telescope and sees that the skeleton driving the hydrofoil is actually Calico. Calico calls The Chaos on-speaker from the hydrofoil and thanks both Clovis and Zak for inspiring him to escape from The Demoniac and he's now free to roam the Seven Seas. He wishes the Seven Cs luck and hopes to see them again someday before ending his call. Zak assures Clovis that he'll get his humanity back for good one day once they find his body to which Clovis agrees.

Trivia[]

  • The English episode title is a reference to the film Mutiny on the Bounty.
  • In the French version, the episode is called "Les revoltes du Demoniac", meaning "The revolts of the Demoniac".
  • Despite this is the twentieth-produced episode, it is the sixteenth episode to premiere worldwide.
  • This episode takes place entirely in the Sea of Vapir.
  • This episode reveals that there are fish residing in Vapir since, at the beginning of the episode, Crogar can be seen eating one while Zak is fishing for more.
  • Clovis mentioned the events of "Origins Part 1" where Golden Bones and his skeleton army invaded The Chaos for the very first time.
    • This also reveals that ever since he bounds to The Chaos, Clovis hasn't met anybody since the ship stays where it was in the middle of the Beru sea. Thus, when Zak arrived at the Bermuda Triangle in "Origins Part 1", he became the very first person Clovis interact with as a spirit.
  • According to Clovis, Calabrass complains about being stuck onto a sword all the time.
  • Clovis' human form is seen for the very first time in this episode.
  • This is the first episode where one or more members of the Seven Cs are held captive on The Demoniac.
  • It's revealed that prior to the events of the series, Golden Bones used to have a first mate named Calico but he was later arrested and locked up in The Demoniac brig after he is discovered to be a mutiny of the skeleton army.
  • This episode reveals that there are some skeletons from Skullivar's army who secretly oppose their leader's tyranny and want to rebel against him. However, it is Golden Bones who prevent any uprising from happening because of his fierce loyalty to Skullivar, and any skeletons who show any signs of rebellion would be imprisoned as well as labeled as traitors.
  • While skeletons don't have flesh, this episode reveals that they can eat and drink since Calico is seen drinking a cup of water.
  • When Clovis is seen during the broadcast after Caramba hacked into The Demoniac radio system, he is blue similar to his spirit form. However, it's unknown if this is an error or an intentional story-wise.
  • This is the first episode where someone in Golden Bones' skeleton army turns their back on their general to help the Seven Cs for a short amount of time before they become enemies again. In this case, while Calico doesn't count since he's a traitor to the army, the rebel skeletons who are fighting back Golden Bones for Clovis and later, a skeleton wearing a pirate hat give Calabrass back to Zak.
  • As of this episode, Calico becomes the Seven Cs' ally after he escapes from being a prisoner on The Demoniac.

Errors[]

Mutiny on the Demoniac 341

An error where Zak is still wearing his Eye of Sino colors.

  • When the episode premiered in the USA on Discovery Family, the episode description incorrectly states that "Clovis is trapped inside the Chaos" instead of inside The Demoniac.[2]
  • Clovis complained that he haven't eaten anything because he's a ghost. However, he is already seen eating something solid which were caramel candies in "Origins Part 2".
  • When Zak is surfing the plank to The Demoniac, parts of Calabrass' face was cut off.
  • When Golden Bones and his loyal skeletons are marching towards Clovis and the rebels, the green glow on his loyal skeletons' eye sockets is missing.
  • When Zak is fighting a skeleton on The Demoniac's dock, the skeleton's body was cut off and his sword was floating in the air before his body parts are scattered to the ground.
  • During the scene when Zak surrenders himself to Golden Bones and his army, he detransforms both himself and Calabrass. However, despite Calabrass returning to his sword form and Zak having his web camera back to normal, his clothing still has the Sino color palette instead of his normal red color.
  • When a skeleton alerts Golden Bones The Chaos are heading towards The Demoniac, his eyes aren't lined up exactly when he's looking up at Golden Bones.
  • When Calabrass is about to activate the Eye of Vapir, the Eye of Dezer is shown instead prior to the transformation sequence.
  • When Zak and Calabrass phase through the door of the prison room while in the Eye of Vapir form, Zak's glow on his plate arm, Calabrass' eyes, and the Eyes of the Seven Seas stones are all miscolored green.
